Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes the rapid build-up of skin cells. This build-up of cells causes scaling on the skin’s surface. About one-third of the people with psoriasis have a family genetic connection and is regarded as an autoimmune disease which in this case involves overactive T– cells. The root cause of psoriasis can be factors such as endocrine, metabolic or immunology factors. The environment also influences the development of the condition including drugs, trauma, infection, and stress.
Psoriasis causes the formation of round and oval raised lesions. Often there is silvery white scale over these lesions. Itching may occur and can be severe in certain cases, but not everyone will have itch.
